Quick answer
Funded accounts rarely die from one exotic black swan. They die from ordinary unprotected clicks: the second loser, the green giveback, the off-hours scalp, the settings bump, the mid-session reset purchase.

Funded accounts rarely die from one exotic black swan. They die from ordinary unprotected clicks: the second loser, the green giveback, the off-hours scalp, the settings bump, the mid-session reset purchase.
This checklist aggregates the Cluster 1 friction map into something you can run before Chicago RTH. Print it, save it, or shove it in your pre-market note. The point is not aesthetics. The point is that every line has a yes/no.
Pillar context: browser friction tilt control. Hub: prop firm risk control hub.
1) Firm-rule hygiene (compliance layer)
Before personal friction, confirm you still understand the envelope:
- [ ] I know today's firm daily loss limit and where I sit relative to it โ see daily loss limit prop firm.
- [ ] I know trailing drawdown / end-of-day vs intraday mechanics for this account.
- [ ] I know news / holiday restrictions that apply today.
- [ ] I am not confusing "still allowed under firm rules" with "still smart under my plan."
Firm rules protect the firm. They are necessary. They are not sufficient. Blowup patterns: stop blowing funded accounts.
2) Personal realized P&L boundaries
- [ ] Realized loss lock set inside the firm daily loss limit (buffer included, revenge room excluded).
- [ ] Realized profit lock set to a number I will actually respect on a green morning.
- [ ] Daily P&L lock enabled on Tradovate realized boundaries.
- [ ] I understand warn-if-open / lock-when-flat behavior.
Deep dives: daily P&L lock prop traders, Tradovate daily P&L lock setup, green day giveback prevention, two-loss rule trading.
3) Hours and calendar fence
- [ ] Weekdays selected match days I actually have an edge journal for.
- [ ] Chicago open/close window matches my plan (not maximal screen time).
- [ ] Optional U.S. market-holiday full-day blocking decided consciously for today/this week.
- [ ] Trading-window lock enabled.
Guides: trading hours lock Chicago RTH, Chicago session times for prop traders, TopstepX trading window rules.
4) Open protocol
- [ ] RTH opening pause set to 1, 5, or 15 minutes.
- [ ] I accept that charts stay visible and controls lock during countdown.
- [ ] Post-pause criteria written (not "see what happens").
Guides: RTH opening pause futures, TradingView RTH opening pause, impulse clicking in trading.
5) Settings freeze plan
- [ ] Size/brackets configured before any order.
- [ ] Settings lock understood: after first detected Tradovate execution, Settings + direct settings routes blocked for Chicago trade date.
- [ ] I will not treat mid-session settings edits as strategy.
Guides: settings lock after first trade, Tradovate settings lock explained.
6) Purchase-site friction
- [ ] Prop-firm purchase site lock enabled for configured RTH if account-churn is in my history.
- [ ] I have a calm, off-RTH process for deliberate purchases.
Guides: prop firm account purchase lock, prop firm purchase sites during RTH.
7) Post-loss and streak protocol
8) Platform and Chrome ops
- [ ] Extension installed on every Chrome profile I trade from.
- [ ] Surfaces covered as needed: Tradovate Trader, TopstepX, TradingView chart pages.
- [ ] Protection settings sync across licensed installs considered; daily lock state understood as local per profile.
Guides: Tradovate Topstep TradingView tilt setup, Tradovate tilt control guide, TopstepX tilt control guide, TradingView chart tilt control, multi-monitor Chrome tilt blocker, Chrome extension trading discipline, Tradovate vs TopstepX discipline setup, TopstepX Tradovate tilt control.
9) Mindset checks without hustle-bro nonsense
How to use this checklist without turning it into theater
Run the full list on Sunday night or before a new account. Run a short version daily: P&L locks on, window on, pause on, settings planned, purchase lock on if needed.
If a line is repeatedly unchecked, that line is probably where your last blowup lived. Do not "catch up" by trading harder. Catch up by enabling the missing fence.
What "protected" does not mean
A checked list does not mean you will keep the funded account. It means the common click paths are harder. Markets can still beat a good plan. Unprotected tilt should not be the reason.
Weekly review add-on (10 minutes)
Every week, score each checklist section 0โ2:
- 0 = missing / ignored
- 1 = configured but bypassed once
- 2 = configured and honored
Anything scoring 0โ1 becomes next week's only process project. Do not add a new strategy while fences are down.
Challenge accounts get the same checklist
People skip fences on challenges because "it's not real capital." The click habits transfer. Run the checklist on evals too โ especially purchase-site lock and P&L lock.
Pair with hub reading
Use the prop firm risk control hub as the library; use this checklist as the daily/weekly operator card. Links above connect both layers.
Printable short card (daily)
- P&L locks on
- Window on
- Pause on
- Settings pre-set
- Purchase lock on (if needed)
- Post-loss routine ready
If any box fails, do not open size. Fix the box. This short card sits under the full checklist for mornings when you will not read a novel.
Red-flag answers that mean "do not trade yet"
- "I'll set locks after I see how the open looks."
- "I'll use size discretion today instead of Settings freeze."
- "Holiday session looks interesting."
- "I'll just buy a cheaper reset if this fails."
Any of those means the checklist failed. Fix before clicking.
Questions to journal this week
- Where did my clicks diverge from my written plan?
- Which blocker would have fired if configured?
- Did I bypass anything? How?
- What will I change Sunday โ numbers, hours, or profile topology?
- Did I confuse firm-allowed with personally wise?
Answer in writing. If you skip journaling, you will mis-tune locks based on the loudest recent emotion rather than patterns.

Session template
- Confirm the firm rule that can end the account today, then your tighter personal fences.
- Turn on P&L lock, trading window, opening pause, settings lock, and purchase-site lock before the first click.
- Review whether you honored the fences after the session, not only the P&L.
Mistakes to avoid
- Confusing "still allowed under firm rules" with "still smart under my plan."
- Setting the Chicago window to maximal screen time.
- Leaving the post-pause rule as "see what happens."
How prop firm traders should apply this guide
Funded accounts rarely die from one exotic black swan. They die from ordinary unprotected clicks: the second loser, the green giveback, the off-hours scalp, the settings bump, the mid-session reset purchase.
